Shopping in Kendal
Kendal is the third largest town in Cumbria. With a variety of high street names and some superb independent shops, the town centre is a wonderful place for some retail therapy. Kendal’s historic yards have been tastefully transformed into unique shopping areas off the main street which has the benefit of being free from traffic.
The Westmorland Shopping Centre is well worth a visit with over 30 shops to choose from. Great whatever the weather as it is all under cover.
Elephant Yard is named after The Elephant Inn which stood on the site around 1820. It is now home to several stylish shops including fashion, footwear, beauty, jewellery, homewares, travel and more.
Wainwrights Yard is the gateway to Booths supermarket and café with some lovely shops including locally loved independents – Armstrong Ward, Slate, La Maison and Maya Maya.
Blackhall Yard is one of Kendal’s oldest yards now connecting the Westmorland Shopping Centre to the main street. It is small and homely with a mixture of great little shops.
Kendal’s street market takes place on Wednesday and Saturday in the Market Square. There is a popular farmer’s market on the last Friday of the month and the indoor market is open six days a week.
